Morgan Winery | The timing of bud break was normal this year. The Chardonnay vines were budding out a week before the Pinot Noir which is typical behavior. The photos were from the Swan clone Pinot Noir at Double L Vineyard.

Over at Roserock in the Eola-Amity Hills, our Chardonnay is about 2% of the way through bud break and still sitting at 0% for the Pinot Noir.

Champagne Bruno Paillard: Chardonnay bud break has now spread over most of the eastward-facing Côte des Blancs. The young vines are pruned last in order to protect them as much as possible from the frequent spring frosts in Champagne (about -2 °F this morning!).

Abbazia di Novacella: This week in the warmest spots of the vineyards (close to the supporting walls) bud break began. The pictures were captured today (April 9). It is quite early, and we are a little bit afraid as in the second half of April we often have frost. At the moment, temperatures get up as high as 74 °F and so everything goes very fast and by the end of next week all of our vineyards should be in the bud break stage.

Bortolomiol: While society is experiencing a particular moment where everything seems to have stopped, our vineyards come back to life. Here, in fact, in the appellation of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, thanks to the mild temperature of these weeks, the first buds have sprung. An excellent sign of recovery, now we await the first leaves in the coming days. In any case, it’s official: spring is here!
